No Sun City Class in 2010

Chuck Moss has informed me that we cannot
have bridge classes at Sun City in 2010.

Subject: Rooms for lessons

Dear Fred,

The Sun City Association office of room assignment has notified me today that no room for bridge lessons will be made available, and that the club has the days and times for play and or lessons, whichever we choose. So, I fear, that Monday mornings will be out for 2010.

If you see that the room is not in use in January, let me know, and I can appeal for use, although I am not optimistic.

Chuck

1 Notrump Forcing – Part 1

On Monday, November 16, we are back to our schedule of bidding classes on Modern Bridge Bidding.

1 Notrump Forcing – Part 1
As far back as the mid 1980s it was suggested by the top teachers of the day that the bid of 1Nt in response to the bid of one of  a major (1M) was not a very useful bid. Today most tournament wise players use the bid of 1Nt in response to 1M as a forcing bid to be able to make direct and delayed responses to 1M – literally doubling the responses to the opening bid of 1M. Audrey Grant in her newest book devotes the whole 2nd chapter to The Forcing 1NT Response.

I don’t care whether you play Standard American, 2/1 Game Force or some variation of modern bridge, nothing will expand your bidding priorities and possibilities faster than incorporating the 1Nt Forcing bid into your system agreements.

At the conclusion of this class participants should understand:
1. The 1NtF bid as a temporizing bid.
2. Opener’s rebids to show shape and values.
3. Responder’s direct/delayed bids to show fits and values.
4. A more extensive spectrum of partnership raises.
5. Use of the 1NtF convention by a passed hand.
